The new nursery stock page outlines the species we are working into our general production. From our perspective “new” means any species that was not offered for sale last year. Some tree and shrub species have a 3 to 5 year cycle between abundant seed sets so we are not able to sell every species every year. Our hope is that by keeping you informed of our growing plans you can make your planting plans more easily. We have always sought to increase plant diversity whenever possible and encourage you to look into these species when you are making your plans. There are a number of tree and shrub species commonly found growing in many different habitats that are often not found in the nursery trade. The reason for this often goes back to how difficult the seeds are to germinate. Our native Viburnum spp. have an 8 to 9 month stratification protocol before they’ll even consider germination. In some cases we keep them for two years before they begin to germinate.
